Roger Federer: "It comforts me to be able to do something good in life"
The last official tournament played by the Swiss Maestro dates back to the Australian Open 2020, where he surrendered in the semifinals to the future winner Novak Djokovic.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion will aim to make it 100% to the summer events, with Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics which could also represent the latest goals of his incredible career. In a video released by Credit Suisse, Federer confided that he has been receiving questions about his retirement for more than a decade.
He said: "People have been asking me when I will stop playing since 2009. That year I was able to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon, so it would have been easy to end my career at that time. I looked in the mirror and wondered if I wanted to achieve something more.
The answer was yes. I am often asked about retirement and I am aware that I cannot play tennis forever, but I am happy to be able to do something good in life. I still love spending time on the court. In some ways, I feel I am still at the beginning of my journey. "
