'I think talent wise Roger Federer is still the best', says legend

The last year has been really difficult for Roger Federer, who missed practically the whole of last season due to injury. After reaching the semifinal at the Australian Open, the Swiss phenomenon underwent a double operation on his right knee that ended his 2020.

The explosion of the global pandemic has caused the former world number 1 not to force his time recovery, in an attempt to repeat what has already been done between 2016 and 2017. Contrary to expectations, the 20-time Grand Slam champion has decided to miss the Australian trip for the first time in the last 23 editions.

A few weeks ago, the 39-year-old from Basel announced that his return to the pitch will take place in Doha in the second week of March. If there are no further setbacks, the former world number 1 will also take part in the clay court season, with his mind already focused on Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics in the summer.

Interviewed by Sony Sports in the context of the Australian Open, Sania Mirza took the opportunity to praise the immense talent of King Roger.

Sania Mirza then praised the Swiss Maestro's effortless playing style and joked that he probably doesn't understand why the other players practice so much.

"I always joke saying Roger Federer must be thinking, 'A bunch of fools who practice for 5 hours a day' He must be thinking, 'Oh my god! It's so easy I don't know why they're practicing'," Mirza contiued.

"So I personally feel that Roger Federer is the greatest ever tennis player, regardless of the numbers, because I think talent wise he is still the best." The Swiss superstar put up a post today, wishing his Chinese fans from all over the world a ‘Happy Chinese New Year’.

It is a short clip, in which Federer is speaking in mandarin (Chinese language). The Chinese Lunar New Year is being celebrated on the 12th of February this year. Usually, the celebrations for the Chinese New Year last for 16 days.

This year, the festival began on the 11th of February and will continue till the 26th of the month. Roger has a sizeable fanbase in China, having won the Shanghai Rolex Masters twice, in 2014 and 2017. When he won in 2017, he attempted to speak a few words in mandarin after the match.

Coming to Roger playing tennis this season, his agent confirmed that he will be seen in Doha for the ATP 250 Masters event, which begins from the 8th of March.
