'For six years, we talk every time with Roger Federer', says former player

Roger Federer has only played in one tournament so far, the Doha Qatar Open which took place about a month ago. The Swiss phenomenon left the scene in the quarter-finals, opting for a further block of training and giving up the appointments in Dubai and Miami.

The former world number 1 appears in the official entry list of the Mutua Madrid Open at the beginning of May, while his participation in the International BNL of Italy the following week seems excluded. The organizers of the ATP in Geneva - to be held from 16 to 22 May after the cancellation of the previous edition - do not hide their desire to convince the 20-time Grand Slam champion to take part in the event.

The 'Geneva Open' returned to the calendar in 2015 and takes place at the Tennis Club de Geneve, the largest and oldest tennis club in Switzerland. Interviewed by 'RTS' in recent days, the tournament directors - Thierry Grin and Rainer Schuttler - said they have been in contact with King Roger for a long time.

Roger Federer is on the entry list of Madrid Open 2021

"It is clear that we dream of it (Roger Federer playing the Geneva Open)," Rainer Schuttler said. "For six years, we talk every time with Roger Federer's team in the hope that he will play the Geneva Open once.

We hope that this year can be the one. We work towards having the strongest field possible," Thierry Grin added. "So imagine if there is Roger Federer..." Thierry Grin revealed that more players have expressed their interest to compete in the Geneva Open this year after the announcement of the Roland Garros delay.

"In recent days, we are approached by more players, who are aware that in case of coming to Geneva, they would not have to play in Paris the following week," Grin said. "Selfishly, we rejoice at the change of dates desired by the French."

Roger Federer will be joining the ATP Tour on April 30, at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021. Presently, all Top 12 players from the men’s side are on the entry list. Moreover, the Swiss maestro would be looking at Madrid as an opportunity to test himself against the top players.

Serbian World No.1 Novak Djokovic will be the top seed for the tournament this year. Following that, most players will play the Italian Open 2021, which starts right after Madrid on May 9, but Federer is missing from the entry list as of now.

Therefore, it indicates that the 20-time Grand Slam champion is hoping to play the French Open 2021. Federer last played at Roland Garros in 2019, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
