Andrei Pavel: "Roger Federer's talent was always ..."

After his official comeback last month in the ATP tournament in Doha, there is a lot of anticipation and curiosity about when Roger Federer's next match on the circuit will be, the first this year on clay. On the threshold of his 40th birthday in a few months, Roger still wants to compete and has officially registered for the Masters 1000 in Madrid while he will not participate in Rome.

It is not yet official, but the Swiss could also participate in the home tournament that will be held this year on clay in Geneva. Federer is working to get back in the best possible way and the clay season, including the Roland Garros, are not priorities but are preparatory in view of the real objectives of this year, namely the Wimbledon tournament and the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

Recently the Roland Garros was postponed by a week and thus approaching Wimbledon, but this does not mean big changes for the Swiss champion who is working to play at his best this phase of the season.

Pavel's words about Roger Federer

It remains to be seen which tournaments Roger Federer will actually participate in on clay and there are many rumors about it.

Former world number 13 Andrei Pavel recalled a victory over Roger Federer, who was beaten in Hamburg on clay-court in 2000. Here are his words: "I only won in 2000 in Hamburg against Federer, he was very young, he was only 18 and was already around 40th in the world, some time later, he was already number one.

At the time he was not so famous, but it was already evident that his talent was unique and unmistakable." Unless sensational twists and turns, Federer will come back at the ATP Masters 1000 Mutua Madrid Open after having played 2 matches in Doha, one won against Daniel Evans (the executioner of Novak Djokovic at the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters) and the other lost against the then tournament winner Nikoloz Basilashvili.
