Roger Federer: 'I’ve really started to enjoy everything that goes...'

Tennis icon Roger Federer was all of us last night when we witnessed one of the biggest surprises in football history. Euro 2020 saw world champions France walk out of the tournament at the hands of the underdog, Switzerland.

They took everyone by surprise by going 1-0 in the opening minutes of the first half. However, two goals from Karim Benzema and an outright stun by Paul Pogba left the Swiss team on the brink of elimination. When a section of the stadium fell silent, they struggled to get back into the match, scoring two goals in the final ten minutes, leading the match to penalties.

An exuberant dive that stopped Kylian Mbappé from scoring the net ended the score at 4-5, eliminating once-tournament favorites. Historic to say the least, Federer reacted to his team's emphatic victory via an Instagram story, saying, "Mega fight boys, lots of heart, bound quarterfinals."

The astonishing scenes from the match caught the attention of fellow countrymen Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic, who were all praise for the team. "Wow. Just wow #hoppschwiz," Belinda said. Heading to Wimbledon All eyes are now on the long-awaited Wimbledon 2021.

Returning from a shocking loss to Felix-Auger Aliassime, Federer will seek to regain his form and confidence. Reflecting on that loss, Federer said: “I had a mental moment where I was just not happy with how things were going in the match.

When things got mentally derailed for me, I was already on a break in third. You could argue that maybe I would have lost anyway."

Federer had been eagerly working on his fitness to be in prime condition

Recently, Roger Federer spoke about the longevity of his career.

There is a combination of various factors that come into play; however, the most important aspect is to still have the same passion for the game as he did when he first became a professional player. The 20-time Grand Slam winner stated, “I love playing tennis, I love traveling around the world and I don’t even mind training anymore.

I didn’t like it when I was younger, but now I’ve really started to enjoy everything that goes with [tennis]. I love my family and I love the tennis tour and if I can combine those things, it makes me a really happy person”.

In Federer’s case, he did not like training much in his younger days. However, with time, he developed a zeal for it. Besides, he is fond of traveling and visiting new cities. Traveling is, of course, unavoidable for professional tennis players given the schedule of the Tour. The balance he maintains between his family and the tennis Tour is key to him playing till this age.
