Legendary tennis coach Rick Macci has no doubt that Serena Williams is the greatest tennis player of all time in the women's game. Macci was one of Williams' first coaches and he coached five former world No. 1s. "To me it’s easy with [the women], you already know what I’m going to say,” Macci told Essentially Sports, as revealed on Tennishead.
“I think if you just judge it on the accomplishments and with your eyes, I don’t think anybody is even close to Serena. “I just don’t even think it’s close. Nothing against anybody else, but she’s incredible”.
Williams is one Grand Slam short of tying Margaret Court on the all-time Major list with 24 Grand Slams. Williams has been sitting at 23 Grand Slams since 2017. "[It’s] nothing to do with me,” Macci continued on Serena’s greatness.
“She’s just incredible in every way. To me that’s a slam dunk”.
Frances Tiafoe agrees with Macci
Tiafoe recently admitted Serena and Venus inspired him to enter the world of tennis. "The name of the Williams is so important, even more so in the African-American community," Tiafoe said.
"Without what they have achieved, I would never have entered the world of tennis. Earlier, apart from them, there were no other colored players. What they have also succeeded in bringing, in their wake, are the Sloane Stephens, the Coco Gauffs."
Tiafoe also has no doubt that Williams is the greatest tennis player of all time. "She's a GOAT and for decades! She is so much more than what she has accomplished in tennis," Tiafoe insisted. "I grew up in a neighborhood where everyone around, in every corner, knows Serena Williams.
When I go back and say I play tennis, the first thing I hear is, "Ah! Like the Williams sisters!" Meanwhile, Williams -- who hasn't played since Wimbledon -- is set to miss the Australian Open.
