Former world No. 1 Venus Williams said competing against Serena Williams on the biggest stage was her childhood dream. Venus and Serena both became great champions and clashed many times on the biggest stage. Serena has had more success as she is a 23-time Grand Slam champion.
Venus has had a successful career as well, collecting seven Grand Slam tites. Recently, Venus spoke with with Shopify president Harley Finkelstein. "Yeah, it's a dream come true," Venus said during her conversation with Finkelstein, according to Sportskeeda.
"It's a dream. It's what we dreamt about growing up. I think a lot of people think 'oh wow what's it like to play your sister' and I'm like 'yeah it's awesome' I'd love to see her get there. I love to get there, it's just the most exciting thing in the world.
I don't think it happens that often in sports too so I've done it quite a lot."
Venus Williams grateful to her parents
Venus said her parents had a great impact on her and Serena as they teached them valuable life lessons.
Venus will forever be grateful to her parents for what they did for her and Serena. "Mom and dad - they had unwavering values for us that we had to take on as our own," Venus said. "I'm so excited to say I am just like my mom and dad, the transformation is complete, the upload is finished, I am them." Venus also talked about how sports helped her in life.
"But also sport. When you're focusing on what you can do and what you'd accomplish, you get a good dose of failure sometimes too but it actually builds confidence. When you're doing positive things, it helps you to know that hey 'I can do more of this," Venus added. Unfortunately, both Venus and Serena Williams skipped the Australian Open.
