Serena Williams reacts to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at Oscars

23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams was one of many that were left stunned by Will Smith's decision to approach Chris Rock and slap him in the face at the Oscars. Even though Smith apologized to the academy, the incident will go down as one of the most shocking scenes ever seen at the Oscars “I just sat down,” Williams said following witnessing the incident live in person, per Sports Illustrated.

Williams recently hailed Smith for his role in King Richard

After winning an Oscar for the best actor for his role in King Richard, Smith issued an apology. “I want to apologize to the academy and I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees,“ Smith said.

“This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying about winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me, it’s about being able to shine light on all of the people. ... Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father just like they said about Richard Williams, but love will make you do crazy things”.

Just recently, Williams hailed Smith for the role he played in King Richard. "To watch our story on the big screen is one of the most special experiences of our lives," Williams said. "I don't think there could have been a better tribute to our father than the performance you delivered, Will.

Thank you." Smith did an outstanding job on King Richard as he won the 2022 Critics' Choice Award for Best Actor. "Thank you very much [for the award]. I am here tonight with Venus and Serena Williams and their sister Isha [Price].

I really want to say to all of [them], thank you for entrusting me with your story," Smith said after winning the award. "You all define the American dream. You represent the best of what we all hope this world and this country can be."
