American snowboarding legend Shaun White recently held a Q&A session and there he named Serena Williams as one one of the top female athletes that have inspired him. Also, White called Williams "incredible" and described her longevity on the WTA Tour as impressive.
Williams is widely considered as one of the greatest players in tennis history as she is a 23-time Grand Slam champion. "I would say Serena Williams. She is incredible, just how long her career has been and everything she represents and she's hilarious because we hang out sometimes, one time it was Halloween.
She came to my party," said White.
Williams not ready to simply walk away from the game
Williams, a former world No. 1, hasn't played since last year's Wimbledon. Even though Williams is 40 and coming off an injury, she is not ready to simply walk away from the game.
Recently, Williams opened on the demandings of the Tour. “I think every tennis player thinks about the R-word as soon as they hit five years because tennis is so intense, it’s literally 11 months out of the year," Williams told Bloomberg.
“But I don’t know. I’m living for the day and I always tell people ‘I’m not planning for tomorrow, only in business. And when it comes to tennis, I’m planning just for today." When Ashleigh Barty announced a shock retirement from tennis at the age of 25, Williams was one of the players that reacted.
Williams said she was sad that Barty was leaving the game at such a young age but also wished her all the best in the next chapter of her life. "@ashbarty I can’t lie I was sad to read your decision but also happy for your new chapter. Always your fan close up and afar. Sending all my love," Williams tweeted.
