Serena Williams, Ons Jabeur learn their first round opponents in Eastbourne

Serena Williams and Ons Jabeur have been drawn to meet Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo in the Eastbourn first round. Williams, 40, announced her return to tennis this Tuesday. In her first tournament back, Williams plans to compete in the Eastbourne doubles event.

As her partner, Williams picked fourth-ranked Jabeur. Williams and Jabeur don't have much experience together as they are set to debut as a pair in Eastbourne. On the other side, Bouzkova and Sorribes Tormo are set to play together for the sixth time.

Bouzkova and Sorribes Tormo are set to play together for the second time this year as they are without a loss in 2022. In their lone doubles appearance in 2022, Bouzkova and Sorribes Tormo won Istanbul this past April. Bouzkova and Sorribes Tormo can definitely play well together and it won't be easy for Williams and Jabeur.

Jabeur 'privileged' to play with Williams

“Pretty excited to play doubles with Serena. When I got the news, I was over the moon, and it is such a privilege for me. Very lucky that she picked me. Hopefully, we are going to have a great tournament and cannot wait to be in Eastbourne this year,” Jabeur said.

Jabeur, 27, recalled the time when she chatted with Williams and losing herself after realizing the American knew who she was. "We talked to each other a few times. She’s very nice, especially when she was with her daughter.

I was trying to speak French a little with her; she could speak really good French. And we had a moment when she was pregnant. I said, 'Congratulations,' and she said, 'Thank you, Ons.' And I was like, 'You know my name? Really? You know I exist?' So it’s great.

I’ve practiced with Venus more, never with Serena; hopefully we will get our first practice next week," Jabeur told Racquet magazine. It remains to be seen how far can Williams and Jabeur go in their first tournament together.
