23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams admits she has made certain changes to her life and routines since the birth of her daughter Olympia. In 2017, Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian welcomed their first child.
"Now when I prepare for a tournament, I practice in the morning, I take VC calls in the afternoon and then I spend time with Olympia, and that didn't happen five years ago," Williams told PEOPLE magazine.."It's totally different.
I can't imagine having this conversation with you a little while ago and saying that this is what my life looks like."
Williams on the importance of financial education
Williams has left a major mark on tennis and she is widely considered as one of the greatest players in tennis history.
But Williams never stopped on being just a great tennis player as she has always been very focused on learning and improving in other life areas. "I am a huge proponent of financial independence and education, and accessibility.
So those things are really important for me to teach my daughter and also important for me to raise awareness," Williams expressed. When Williams launched the Serena Ventures a decade ago, her goal was to help Black businesses and other women who didn't really have opportunities to kickstart their businesses.
"We invest in women, we invest in women of color, we invest in people of color. A lot of these companies talk about diversity, but they just talk about it. It's because it's a good subject that they bring up, but they don't really do a lot of things about it.
And so at Serena Ventures we do, we talk about it. We be about it," Williams said on the same. Meanwhile, Williams is preparing to kick off her summer on hard courts next week at the National Bank Open in Toronto. After Toronto, Williams is also scheduled to play at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and the US Open.
