Greg Rusedski thought Emma Raducanu's tactics versus Serena Williams were "very good" and she should hire coach Dmitry Tursunov full-time. Raducanu was first joined by Tursunov two weeks ago in Washington, where she reached the quarterfinal before losing to Liudmila Samsonova.
This week in Cincinnati, Tursunov joined Raducanu for the second time. On Tuesday, Raducanu saw off Serena Williams 6-4 6-0 in her Cincinnati opener. Rusedski feels Raducanu needs consistency and admits he would like to see the 19-year-old hire Tursunov long-term.
Rusedski: I hope Raducanu, Tursunov stay together for a long period of time
“I’ve seen some improvements in her game actually,” Rusedski told Amazon Prime. “I really like the serve out wide on the deuce side to Serena’s forehand.
I thought her tactics were good, standing a little further back on the return of serve to buy herself some more time. I think there was a lot of positives there and she’s hired Dmitry Tursunov on a two-week trial. I’ve seen areas of her game which seem to be a little bit better.
I just hope they stay together for a long period of time. It’s about consistency for Emma and if she gets the consistency, she will get back to where she was really threatening at tournaments and at Slams”. This week in Cincinnati, Raducanu was asked about her trial with Tursunov.
Raducanu answered that she's taking more time to see certain things before she makes the final decision. “He’s here, we’re continuing the [coaching] trial,” Raducanu said this week. “It’s mainly, we just need to see how we work with each other, how we compliment each other.
That’s it, I guess. It’s too early to tell”. Previously, Raducanu split with coach Torben Beltz in April. Raducanu has had several coaching changes over the last year and she is now semingly taking more time before she decides who to hire next.
