Carlos Alcaraz opens up on drawing inspiration from Serena Williams

World No. 4 Carlos Alcaraz named Serena Williams as a great source of inspiration after asked to name one WTA player that has been really inspiring to him. Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, is one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.

Alcaraz, 19, belongs to the generation that grew up watching Williams dominate the game. Now, Alcaraz is one of the most talented players in the game and tipped to reach the stars. "I mean, I could say Serena. Serena inspires me a lot.

(Her) last match yesterday was amazing, she inspired me, and a lot of players, you know. I would say Serena," Alcaraz said, via Sportskeeda.

Alcaraz on his US Open second round win

On Thursday, Alcaraz saw off Federico Coria 6-2 6-1 7-5.

Alcaraz got off to a fast start to the match, breaking Coria twice to win the first set. In the second set, Alcaraz broke Coria three times to go up by two sets. After winning the first two sets, Alcaraz claimed an early third set break and led 4-1 through the first five games of the set.

Just when it seemed the match was over, Coria got the break back in the seventh game. But Alcaraz saved five break points in the ninth game, before breaking Coria again in the 12th game to complete a straight-set win. "I enjoyed playing today," said Alcaraz.

"Of course I (am) trying not to think about the pressure, not to think about the results, and of course to the ranking, you know. Just trying to be myself on court, trying to, as you say, show my best level. I think I am getting better every day that I am playing here in US Open.

So I just, yeah, enjoy and show my best level in the next rounds." After beating Coria, Alcaraz defeated Jenson Brooksby to reach the US Open last-16.
