Venus Williams gives her verdict on pickleball

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams says she has nothing against the game of pickleball as she is "happy to see folks holding a racket in their hands." Pickleball, which is the fastest-growing sport in the United States, is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong.

In recent months, tennis players have started noticing and talking about pickleball. Through her clothing brand EleVen by Venus, Williams received and answered some questions. "What on earth is pickleball and why are tennis players talking about it? It sounds like a euphemist," the question Williams received read.

Williams responded: “Pickleball is growing and I’m happy to see folks with any kind of racquet in their hand."

Williams has nothing against Pickleball

Just this week, NFL icon Tom Brady and tennis legend Kim Clijsters announced they were buying a Major League Pickleball franchise.

“I’ve been trying to find a way to extend my professional sports career beyond my 40s, even into my 50s, 60s, 70s. As long as I can. It seems like everyone else has the answer too: Pickleball. I’m super excited to announce that I’m officially joining the MLP family.

I’m coming to win. I’m coming to dominate the sport. Pickleball, let’s f------ go!” Brady said in an announcement made on Instagram. Clijsters, who retired from professional tennis this year, said she is excited about owning a pickleball franchise.

“Of course, I’m excited at the investment opportunity. But what excites me the most about becoming an MLP owner is that I get to help shape the future of pickleball, a sport I have come to love, with great people – who also happen to be some of my best friends.

I’m thrilled to help showcase professional pickleball and make an impact on the sport through my experience gained in the top levels of professional tennis," Clijsters said.
