Serena Williams supports Kobe Bryant's daughter gender equality project

Almost 27 years after making her first appearance on the WTA Tour, Serena Williams ended her legendary career last week with a third-round defeat of the 2022 US Open. Turning pro in October 1995, the American is almost universally recognized like the biggest ever.

While she failed to match Margaret Court's 24 Majors, Serena had a huge impact on women's tennis and sport in general. The last two seasons have been an ordeal for the former WTA number 1, that she has no longer been able to play as she is and as much as she would have wished.

Advancing age and the desire to devote herself to other projects led her to make this very painful decision. After beating Danka Kovinic and Anett Kontaveit in the first two rounds of the US Open, Williams had to surrender to Australian Ajla Tomljanovic after a three-hour battle over Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Serena Williams' retirement has sparked a myriad of reactions in every corner of the world. In a recent interview, Laura Harvey, manager of the OL Reign women's soccer team, expressed her point of view on Serena's farewell.

She told: "An era is over. Many of the athletes who have accompanied us in the last 15-20 years are retiring. Serena has shown us what it takes to win at the highest level. Her dedication and her desire to never give up have been contagious and have inspired millions of sportsmen around the world.

Her latest match perfectly embodied her essence."

Serena Williams supports Kobe Bryant's daughter project

Serena Williams shared Natalia Bryant's project on her Instagram accoint. Natalia is the daughter of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020.

Natalia Bryant shared her thoughts on organizing basketball courts for girls and boys to play together. Gender equality in all sports is one of Serena Williams' main problems. Precisely for this reason, the tennis legend wanted to share Natalia Bryant's project, the inauguration of a new sports facility in Pheonix.

Serena, who did not want to push her daughter Olympya to tennis, is seeing her daughter become passionate about the NFL, enrolling her daughter in a local team: for this reason Serena has proposed herself for the role of volunteer assistant coach and will be able to help daughter and all other members.
