Venus Williams has signed up to compete at the Korea Open in Seoul, the tournament organizers announced. Williams, 43, is set to make her second appearance in Seoul. In 2007, Williams enjoyed an impressive debut in Seoul when she won the title in her first appearance in the South Korean tournament.

Williams preparing to play again in October

The 2023 season has been a challenging one and full of adversity for seven-time Grand Slam champion Williams.

Throughout the year, Williams battled various injuries. Most recently, Williams was hampered by a leg injury going into the US Open. Although Williams managed to compete at the US Open, it was evident that she was far from her best physical shape as Greet Minnen ousted the American 6-1 6-1 in the first round. "Obviously preparation is always a fantastic thing to have in life, in general, especially as an athlete.

Yeah, I mean, I definitely could have hoped for more throughout the year. Honestly, I just had some really bad luck. I don't think it was a lack of my body not holding up, it was just a lack of, like, really bad luck with injuries.

There were things I couldn't control. I was really happy to be here. When I had to withdraw from Cleveland, I wasn't sure that I could be here. I have to really thank my doctors for helping me to get here. That in itself was a blessing.

I love playing here. I really gave it my all today. I really played some great shots, but she had some incredible answers to that. I wish I could have been more prepared for that," Williams said after her US Open exit. It remains to be seen if Williams can have a positive run in Seoul.
