Serena Williams' career has been enriched with a new important award. The former tennis star received the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America for her contributions to American fashion. Serena talked about how fashion was important to her during her career, both during her on-court challenges and during her life off-court. "I knew from an early age that I was different, so I explored fashion and style as a way to stand out.
In many ways for me, the tennis courts became my runway, and the U.S. Open was my personal New York Fashion Week "Rethinking the traditional tennis dress became a way to express my individuality, my confidence and, most importantly, my culture," said the North American icon.
Below you can see photos of the incredible dress Serena wore to the awards ceremony.

Serena one of the icons of this generation
Over the years, women's tennis has grown almost hand in hand with men's tennis and much of the credit must be assigned to three particular tennis players: we are talking about Venus and Serena Williams and the Russian Maria Sharapova.
These three athletes have totally rewritten the model of viewing tennis and have made the history of this sport. We are not just talking about victories and above all Venus and Serena have dominated the circuit for years, but a success that is not limited exclusively to tennis.
Over the years these three famous athletes have built an authentic empire through successes and above all sponsorships, becoming real styles and models to follow in sport. Among current tennis players, perhaps only the Japanese Naomi Osaka (who is currently at a standstill) follows this trend but Venus, Serena and Maria have changed the way of conceiving tennis.
On the other hand, their assets conceive luxury homes, medium-high range cars and investments to produce large companies. Maria created Sugarpova almost from scratch for example and this brand has become a huge success in just a few years.
World-famous tennis players who have amassed a fortune not only thanks to their undeniable ability on the tennis court but also through a series of highly successful entrepreneurial activities. These tennis players are like three big companies that have attracted the attention of big brands and together have built profitable partnerships.
Sponsorships have undoubtedly been fundamental to the careers of these three athletes and Serena, Venus and Maria have signed very lucrative contracts with luxury brands in the fashion sector over the years. Over the years these three tennis players have invested in luxury properties in different corners of the world.
Serena has a splendid villa in Beverly Hills, California, with a breathtaking view of the ocean and truly gigantic. Maria Sharapova has invested in a luxury residence in Los Angeles, a residence that reflects her status as an international star and these investments are not only luxury properties but also strategic investments in key cities.
From luxury real estate to much more, the public image of these three athletes was almost or more fundamental than their tennis in bringing their fame to a global level. Three athletes who have practically said goodbye (there is no official announcement for Venus) but who will remain in the history of this sport, in any case.
