Bianca Andreescu took a moment to show appreciation for Serena Williams and Billie Jean King when congratulating National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which was celebrated on February 7th.

King, a former 12-time Grand Slam champion, founded the WTA Tour in 1973. On the other side, former 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams is one of the most impactful players in women's tennis history.

On a special day for women's sports, 23-year-old Andreescu praised King and Williams for paving the way for her to be where she is today. In her message, Andreescu also gave recognition to Coco Gauff and freestyle skier Eileen Gu.

"Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day," Andreescu wrote in an Instagram Story. "I'm so grateful for the girls and women in sports who have helped shape my career, like Billie Jean King and Serena Williams. Without them, I would not be here today.

"And for the next generation of amazing women in sports who are raising the bar like Eileen Gu and Coco Gauff, it is so amazing to see."

When Andreescu plans to play again?

It has been a while since Andreescu last played as the Canadian's last appearance came in early August when she suffered a first-round defeat in Montreal. After exiting Montreal, former world No. 4 Andreescu took an extended break from tennis to address a back injury that was hampering her for some time.

Earlier this month, 2019 US Open champion Andreescu issued an update, revealing that she is targeting to play again in early March in Indian Wells.

"It's getting there. It's not 100%, but I'm really hoping that I can play Indian Wells," Andreescu told TSN.

In Indian Wells, Andreescu had a very memorable debut in 2019 as she impressively won the title in her first appearance in the desert. In two other Indian Wells appearances, Andreescu suffered third-round exits in 2021 and 2023.
