Last year at the US Open, a lot of hype had been created over the fact that Serena Williams will be going for a calendar slam as she looked to win her 22nd Grand Slam title. However things did not go according to plan as the World No 1 was beaten at the semifinal stage by Roberta Vinci.
Williams is still to win her 22nd Grand Slam – having lost the following Australian Open and French Open finals respectively. But when the American lost at the US Open last year, there had been blame thrown around and her reported boyfriend at that time, Drake got the worst of it for being responsible for the loss.
Speaking in a recent interview, Serena Williams has come to Drake’s defense and has claimed that nobody is to blame but herself. “I don’t think that was fair,” she said. “I’m the one who’s playing, who’s making mistakes or making winners.
I’m not one to blame anyone else for anything. And I don’t think anyone else should either. I played a really good opponent that day. And I wasn’t at my best." Also Read: Serena Williams is the highest paid female athlete while Maria Sharapova .
