Serena Williams Post on Instagram on Tradition of Braiding Hair

Tennis - Serena Williams has posted an update on her Instagram account where she is seen braiding her daughter's hair and talks about the braiding tradition that started in Africa. Williams is quite regular with her updates on her daughter to her followers and on her latest post on braiding, she says, "Braiding started in Africa with the Himba people of Namibia.

We have been braiding our hair for centuries. In many African tribes, braided hairstyles were a unique way to identify each tribe. Because of the time, it would take people would often take the time to socialise. It began with the elders braiding their children, then the children would watch and learn from them.

The tradition of bonding was carried on for generations and quickly made its way across the world. I am honoured to share this bonding experience with my own daughter and add another generation of historic traditions”.

23-time major winner Williams will be in England this month for the Wimbledon Championships as she hopes to win her first Grand Slam since becoming a mother. A title would equal her with Margaret Court, who currently owns the all-time record with 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
