WTA Wimbledon - Draw: Serena Williams could face Kerber in fourth round

Ashleigh Barty heads into Wimbledon as a top favorite. The Australian player, who won her maiden Grand Slam title in the French Open and then won the Birmingham Tennis Classic, will try to continue her momentum. She does not have an easy draw, as she could meet Garbine Muguruza in the third round and Belinda Bencic in the fourth round.

In the quarter-finals Barry could meet the seven-time Wimbledon winner Serena Williams. The American will open her campaign against the Italian qualifier Giulia Gatto Monticone. In the second round Serena would meet Juvan or Krystina Pliskova, then Julia Goerges in the third round and Angelique Kerber in the fourth.

The other quarter-final of the top half would feature Kiki Bertens and Petra Kvitova. The Czech triumphed in 2011 and 2014. On the bottom half Naomi Osaka will start her run against Yulia Putintseva. In the second round the Japanese would play against Swiatek or Viktorija Golubic, then Sofia Kenin in the third round.

Kenin upset Serena in the French Open. In the quarters, Osaka would meet Simona Halep. Karolina Pliskova and Elina Svitolina are set to face each other. The defending champion Kerber will open her run against her compatriot Tatjana Maria.

Daniela Hantuchova praised Serena: “You never know how much preparation she is getting before she starts the first match so that is always the question. But for women’s tennis it is great having someone like Ashleigh doing well.

She is a humbled girl and is like an old classic - what you see if what you get. She is a great example for the world players”.
