Dementieva mentions Serena Williams explaining Kremlin Cup success

In a press conference the former Russian player Elena Dementieva spoke about what makes the Kremlin Cup in Moscow so special. Dementieva said: "I remember one of my first tournaments when Anastasia Myskina and I were playing qualies.

Venus Williams was in the tournament, and she already was a star, everybody awaited her arrival. I remember, that a completely distressed Nastya came to me and said: «You know, I am to play Williams in the first round».

«Well, how can this be?! Let me see the draw, «I said. I grabbed the draw sheet, looked at it carefully and tried to calm down Nastya: «Why are you so upset?! This is just her younger sister, Serena. The main indicator of quality and level of organization of the tournament is the fact that the players come back here - and not only Serena, who started here as a wild card holder in qualies, but then she came back as a star."

The Tournament Director Amir Tarpischev said: "We are pleased, that Russian tennis stars (Khachanov, Rublev, Medvedev) will participate in the tournament. This season the vguys demonstrated the highest level of tennis».

Amir also drew the attention to young and promising players included in the tournament draw: these are the Serb Miomir Kecmanovic and the Chileans Christian Garin and Nicholas Hare. Each of them has already won a title this season.

And for Janko Tipsarevic this tournament will be the last in his professional career, I hope the Russian public will bid him a worthy farewell."
