Tennis - 16-year-old Danish junior Holger Rune continues to attract the attention of the top stars in tennis today. After getting an invite to be the training partner at the ATP Finals in London, Hune has now been invited to be part of a training camp at the Patrick Mouratoglou Academy which will feature Serena Williams in December according to Ekstrabladet.
The preseason camp takes place in Florida from December 10th to December 21st and is also likely to feature Coco Gauff, the 15-year-old WTA teen sensation who has skyrocketed the world rankings this season. A top male player is also likely to be added to the camp.
Aneke Rune, the mother of the Danish youngster, says, "We had actually thought that we would have to pause for a bit after the packed program, but the value in that event can be very great for Holger, so it is very tempting to say yes.
It may initially give him a good exposure in the US, but especially in the longer term, our relationship with Moratoglou is valuable as a door opener for the challenger tournaments that Holger will hopefully soon be playing."
16-year-old Holger Rune has said he will give up the junior circuit after winning the ITF Junior Masters ini China earlier this month and finishing the season as World No. 1. He will start playing the ITF Pro Circuit events and focus on the senior circuit next season.
Mouratoglou has said that he is very excited about the prospects of Rune and wants him to join the academy full-time. "We are talking about getting him affiliated with the academy full time. He has been a part of it for about four years, is very talented and a very competitive person, he said among other things. He's a guy who works incredibly hard and is very ambitious. The mental characteristics of the kid are the most important to me."
