In an interview to the New York Times the former player Daniela Hantuchova was asked if she thinks Serena Williams can win a Grand Slam title again. Hantuchova said: “I do hope it happens for her, as a reward for the champion she is.
But I do believe she should play a few extra tournaments to be able to handle those finals better and so things can come automatically in the big moments”. Hantuchova also spoke of Ashleigh Barty's success. The Australian won WTA Finals in Shenzhen and the French Open.
“Mentally, I think it finally came together for her. We’ve all been there. Everyone tells us how good we are, but we have to believe it ourselves. And she does now”. On how winning last year's WTA Elite Trophy helped her, Barty said: "It's been an incredible progression from when I played in Zhuhai this time last year.
For me to be able to cap off my 2018 season in Zhuhai felt very special. It kind of allowed me to reset goals for 2019, dream that little bit bigger. Now to have the year we've had in 2019 has been incredible. I feel like we've worked incredibly hard to try to put ourselves in the biggest occasions on our tour, on the court. I'm very fortunate to be sitting here tonight knowing that we've had such a great season."
