Patrick Mouratoglou, the coach who has been training Serena Williams since 2012, is excited for the 9th consecutive year alongside the American tennis legend. “2020 here we come! I can’t believe we are starting our 9th season together @serenawilliams!”, Mouratoglou said on Instagram.
The Greek-French tennis coach, who is also training Stefanos Tsitsipas, accomplished great things with Serena along the 8 years spent together. Since 2012, Serena has won Australian Open two times, Roland Garros two times, Wimbledon three times and US Open three times.
Therefore, Patrick led the younger of the Williams sisters to no less than 10 Grand Slam titles. And let’s not forget about the 2012 London Olympics gold medal. Mouratoglou was behind Serena’s back there as well. The famous coach, who has trained plenty of WTA and ATP players alongside his coaching career, also tipped that Serena could bring freshness into her 2020 games.
"Pre-season is the only time during the year when we can work on new things in order to add weapons to player's game. Serena always wants to improve, and that is one of the trademarks of the champions." Mouratoglou said.
However, it remains to be seen if Mouratoglou will be able to get Serena to her 24th Grand Slam of her career throughout this year. Besides Serena, Patrick is doing a pretty good job with Stefanos Tsitsipas who has proven himself as one of the next generation’s leaders in the ATP Tour. The Greek is currently sixth in the world and he’s only 21 years old.
