Serena Williams talks about her stress buster activities

In 2017 Serena Williams married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and on 1st September 2017 she became the mother of Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. after numerous complications during childbirth. At the beginning of the year, top seeded Williams won her first singles title as a mother at the 2020 ASB Classic beating Giorgi, McHale, Siegemund, Anisimova along the way and Jessica Pegula in the final.

Williams' next tournament was the 2020 Australian Open where she was seeded 8th. She defeated Anastasia Potapova and Tamara Zidanšek in the first and second rounds respectively in straight sets, before falling to Wang Qiang in three tight sets in the third round.

During a long interview, Serena talked about her stress buster activities: “Something I do every day is [to] completely turn my brain off, which sounds weird but because I work so much between tennis and running my other properties—Serena Ventures and Serena Clothing,” she said.

“But it’s a lot so I just need to turn my brain off and not think about anything. Sometimes it’s mediation. Sometimes it’s watching a program [on TV] that has nothing to do with anything, like something that is silly or fun,” Williams added.

“It’s a lot easier now because I can just watch my baby. It really helps me to focus on her and focus on the moment and not think about anything else. And I purposely do that with her because I know that I just need to shut off. It allows me to reset. And get more energized to go train the next day or take more work calls."
