23 time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams spoke about her daughter wanting to play tennis with her and also dealing with migraine attacks for many years in a recent interview with InStyle.
Serena Williams says she can't say no to her daughter
Serena Williams and husband Alexis Ohanian have a daughter Olympia, who is now 2 years old.
In the interview Serena spoke about her daughter playing tennis. "I don't force tennis on her. She has a little tiny Wilson racket and she always says, 'tennis, tennis!' I'm like, I just finished training, the last thing I want to do is play tennis, but I can't say no to her!" Williams, who plans to play the upcoming US Open in New York although many other top players have decided to withdraw from the event, also spoke about dealing with migraine attacks for many years in the interview.
"I’ve been dealing with lots of [different types of] migraines my whole life. In my mid-twenties, gosh, I would get debilitating throbbing pains in my head, but as a professional athlete, you can't necessarily stop what you're doing."
Serena says she took some time off during the initial days of the lockdown and let her body heal but her migraines returned once she started training again, adding that she now takes medication for the same which has helped her.
"I actually took so many weeks off from training when [the pandemic began]. I let my body completely heal [from recent injuries] and then I started training again and it felt really good. But then after the first few weeks of quarantine, I had insane migraine attacks.
I had a migraine literally like clockwork every night. Everyone was dealing with stress and unknown factors. We didn't know what was happening and we were locked in our houses. Honestly, I was skeptical.(about taking medication) I always felt like I'm this tough person and I don't have to take any medicine, but once I took it I ended up getting relief very fast and I felt fine.
I was like, okay, this is actually really, really good. This is a new life for me”. Serena Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles in her career - she is aiming to win a record equalling 24th Grand Slam title in New York later this month. She is currently ranked No. 9 in the world.
