Former world No. 9 Andrea Petkovic dropped a major praise on former world No. 1 Garbine Muguruza following their second round clash at the US Open. Petkovic, now ranked at No. 68 in the world, stood no chance against Muguruza as the Spaniard won 6-4 6-2.

After the match, Petkovic took to Instagram to show respect for Muguruza. In her Instagram post, Petkovic said women like Muguruza make her love tennis. "Women like Garbine make me love this sport, this type of competition and the people in it even more.

she’s tough, she excels when facing challenges or obstacles and brings great intensity in practice and matches. that’s why i love playing and practicing with her, i learn so much every time (even though i’m older lol, learn from the youth people!).

but the best part is: once we step off the court, those things stay on the court. i think this is what healthy competition is about. i’ll keep learning from Garbine AND from all the other tough cookie women on tour," Petkovic said.

Petkovic not ready to call it a career.

Petkovic, 33, believes she could for a few more years on the Tour as she is feeling fine physically and mentally. "I'm 33 now (turning 34 in September, mark it in your calendars and i feel so lucky that my body still allows me to perform on the biggest stages.

it’s the German beer, you guys. the beer keeps you healthy and running (hey, aren’t we all scientists nowadays!). be right back, gotta go work harder. Bye," Petkovic added. Prior to the US Open, Petkovic enjoyed some success on the clay courts.

Petkovic made it all the way in Hamburg and Cluj, while she made the semifinal in Belgrade. Despite the loss to Muguruza, Petkovic still owns a 3-1 head-to-head record against the Spaniard.
