Alexander Zverev, Angelique Kerber share mutual love and respect for each other

German tennis star Alexander Zverev is glad to see Angelique Kerber playing well again and he is also happy to see his close friend being happy in life. Kerber, a former world No. 1, has had a nice few months, winning it all in Bad Homburg before making the semifinal at Wimbledon.

In her first tournament after Wimbledon, Kerber made the Cincinnati Masters semifinal -- in which she lost to eventual champion Ashleigh Barty. After a disappointing first half of the season, world No. 17 Kerber has found her form and game.

"She has been playing incredible tennis since this summer. She moves very well on the baseline, is not as hectic as she was a few months ago. I think she is happy in her life. I am happy that she is playing well again," Zverev said of Kerber, per BILD.

"We're incredibly good friends, we know each other very well personally, and are often together on the tennis facilities as well. I often watch the matches of the players I know, and Angie has always been one of the favourites," Zverev added.

Kerber didn't represent Germany at the biggest Tokyo Olympics but she was rooting for her fellow compatriot Zverev to win it all. Zverev, who recovered from a set and a break down in the Tokyo Olympics semifinal against Novak Djokovic, ended up winning gold medal.

"At the Olympics, I watched. very match of his and rooted for him. I was convinced of his potential from early on and there's a lot more to come," Kerber revealed. At the Hopman Cup in 2019, Kerber and Zverev just missed out on beating Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic.

"Yes, there is [a friendship]. But I'll never forgive him missing the match point against Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic at the Hopman Cup," Kerber joked.
