Carlos Alcaraz reacts to upsetting No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas at US Open

Rising Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz credited fans for propelling him over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the US Open third round. Alcaraz, ranked at No. 55 in the world, stunned third-seeded Tsitsipas 6-3 4-6 7-6 (2) 0-6 7-6 (5) to reach the US Open round-of-16.

"I think without this crowd I would not have the possibility to win this match,” Alcaraz said in his on-court interview, per the ATP website. “I was down at the start of the fourth set, so thank you to the crowd for pushing me through.

It is an incredible feeling for me." Alcaraz, who turned 18 just a few months ago, is enjoying a breakthrough season on the Tour and the win over Tsitsipas has been the biggest win of his career. "This victory means a lot to me," Alcaraz added.

"It is the best match of my career. Beating Stefanos Tsitsipas is a dream come true”.

Alcaraz made a strong start to the match, having broken Tsitsipas three times in the first set to win the opener.

After winning the first set, Alcaraz got off to a fast start to the second set, having won the opening three games of the set. However, Tsitsipas recovered as he claimed back-to-back breaks to overturn the deficit and win the second set.

Tsitsipas was by a double break in the third set and even had three set points on his serve in the eighth game but failed to realize as Alcaraz managed to force a tie-break. Tsitsipas paid the price for blowing a big third-set lead as Alcaraz dominated the tie-break to go up by two sets to one.

However, Tsitsipas quickly regained his focus as he bageled Alcaraz in the fourth set to force a decider. As no breaks were seen in the fifth set -- the set went into a tie-break -- in which Alcaraz realized his third match point to claim the biggest win of his career.
