Naomi Osaka after the elimination: "I don't know when I'll play again"

Naomi Osaka is going through the worst period of her young sports career. That tennis that gave her smiles, titles and great emotions, has now led the young Japanese icon through tribulations and suffering. A bad period that now lasts from the famous eve of Roland Garros 2021, passing through sensational retreats and disappointing performances.

In fact in the 3rd round of the US Open 2021 women's singles, Naomi Osaka falls again, incredibly, against the less predictable opponent: 18-year-old Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez. The young Japanese star, who is going through a really dark period in her career, 7-5 6-7 4-6, hoping for the impossible despite an initial set of advantage and the tie-break of the second set.

Of course, off courts issues affected her performances: she need to be left alone, because WTA tennis needs Naomi.

In the press conference Osaka said that now she needs a break from tennis, to recover the psychophysical energies of the last troubled months.

She said: "Lately, if I win, I'm not as happy as I am relieved; if I lose, I'm very sad. I don't think it's normal. I don't want to cry, but at this point I have to understand what I want to do, so I'm not sure when I'll play the my next meeting."

Leylah Fernandez has reached the 4th round in a Grand Slam for the first time in his career, and will now face Angelique Kerber. Furthermore, Fernandez, from the end of the tournament, will be close to the top-50 of the WTA ranking.

As for Naomi Osaka, after not playing Wimbledon, after being stopped by Marketa Vondrousova at the Tokyo Olympics and by Jill Teichmann at the Western & Southern Open, she looks forward to a stop perhaps until the end of the season.

Rumors close to the Japanese tennis player say she could return directly in 2022 for the Australian Open, where she will be defending champion.
