Former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski thinks that Daniil Medvedev looks "unstoppable" at the moment and he suggested that we can expect a Medvedev and Novak Djokovic Us Open final. Medvedev, ranked at No. 2 in the world, is making progress at the US Open as on Sunday he thrashed top-ranked British tennis player Daniel Evans 6-3 6-4 6-3 to reach the US Open quarterfinal.
Medvedev, 25, made his maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open in 2019. Back then, Medvedev suffered a five-set loss to 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. World No. 1 Djokovic is chasing a Calendar Grand Slam at this year's US Open and Medvedev has already said that he wants to spoil the Serb's plans.
"Daniil Medvedev looks like the man in the best form and has the easier section to make it back to the US Open final. Looks unstoppable at the moment. Djokovic Vs Medvedev final?" Rusedski tweeted.
Medvedev routed Evans
Medvedev claimed a total of five breaks en route to handing a straight-set defeat to Evans.
"Today I liked my serve better,” Medvedev said in his on-court interview. “But there was one forehand return that for me was the best shot of the match, so if we take one shot it has to be this one, but if we take the whole match it has to be the serve”.
Last year, Medvedev made the US Open semifinal before losing to eventual champion Dominic Thiem. This year, Medvedev is hoping to land his maiden Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows. "First time when I came back last year [after the Russian’s final defeat to Nadal in 2019] I had some good memories,” Medvedev added.
“Now, I just want to make it to the final again to have another one to remember and hopefully a better one”.
