Sharon Fichman explains why Bianca Andreescu thrives at US Open

Former world No. 77 Sharon Fichman insists that Bianca Andreescu thrives in the spotlight and that's the main reason behind her success at the US Open. Andreescu, 21, had a dream US Open debut two years ago she beat former world No.

1 Serena Williams to win her maiden Grand Slam title. Andreescu, ranked at No. 7 in the world, was unable to defend her US Open title last year but she returned to Flushing Meadows this season. Andreescu has continued where she left off in 2019, winning her first three matches to make the US Open round-of-16.

"She elevates her game in the spotlight with fans behind her. She really thrives in that environment ... You’re not going to find more rowdy, louder fans anywhere in the world," Fichman of Andreescu, per Mark Masters.

Andreescu, Leylah Fernandez making some noise

Fernandez, 19, is having an outstanding US Open campaign. Fernandez, ranked at No. 73 in the world, stunned world No. 3 Naomi Osaka in the US Open third round before stunning former world No.

1 Angelique Kerber in the round-of-16. "When we practised together when she was younger, she just really went for shots that I was surprised she had the courage to," Fichman said of Fernandez. "She just kind of immediately inserted herself into professional tennis & was like, 'Yes, I belong here.'

" After beating Osaka, Fernandez insisted she has always believed she could beat anyone. "From a very young age, I knew I was able to beat anyone who is in front of me. I was always that competitive, saying I'm going to win against my dad in soccer, even though that's impossible," Fernandez claimed after beating Osaka.

"I guess today that belief came true. "I don't know why finally my game is clicking. The past few months, even after Monterrey, I've been working hard, training super well. My coach, my dad, is saying be patient, have confidence in your game, it will show in matches. I'm glad it finally did."
