Felix Auger-Aliassime: Daniil Medvedev was the better player

World No. 15 Felix Auger-Aliassime admitted that No. 2 seed Daniil Medvedev was the better player and deserved to win their US Open semifinal clash. Medvedev, who is aiming to win his maiden Grand Slam title, saw off Auger-Aliassime 6-4 7-5 6-2 to progress into his second US Open final.

"I think Daniil was the better player today on the court for sure,” Auger-Alliasime admitted, per Tennis Majors. “It still shows things that I can improve in every aspect of my game. I had to play my best level and even better if I wanted to get a chance to win today.

I didn’t do it long enough. “Now it’s tough to lose. At the same time, I mean, I’ve always tried to accept the reality in my career. As much as I would have wanted to win today, I didn’t. Now I need to accept the reality, which is I lost.

I can do better, and for sure I will. “Now it’s time to rest and get back to work. That’s all I can do really. But, of course, it’s a positive week. It could have been different. In the end things are moving in the right direction”.

Auger-Aliassime missed a great second-set chance

Auger-Aliassime blew two set points when serving for the second set in the ninth game and that was the end of the match for him. "Honestly in, let’s say, the first set and until 5-3, 5-4 in the second set, I was playing as good as I could play,” Auger-Aliassime said.

“There was one game in the first set where I played great rallies, then I just missed whenever I was trying to come in. That’s all he needed. That’s all he needed to break me. “When I was up a break, up 5-2, I was playing as good as I could play, coming in when I needed to, mixing up with serve and volleys.

It’s just unfortunate I couldn’t close out the second set. I was playing good. It would have been tough after to win even two other sets. At least if I gave myself a shot, it would have been more satisfying”.
