Greg Rusedski: Emma Raducanu has accomplished something that will never be repeated

Former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski said it was a privilege to witness Emma Raducanu's remarkable run to the US Open title. Raducanu, 18, won the US Open title as a qualifier and made tennis history. In the final, Raducanu saw off Leylah Fernandez 6-4 6-3 to win her maiden Grand Slam title.

Raducanu didn't drop a single set in 10 matches played at the US Open. "It was a privilege to watch @EmmaRaducanu create history tonight. She has accomplished something that will never be repeated in our sport. To come through qualifying, to win 10 matches in arrow with dropping a set, and win a major in only her 2nd appearance.

Remarkable,2 Rusedski tweeted.

Raducanu didn't expect that to happen in her wildest dreams

Raducanu drew attention to herself two months ago when she made the Wimbledon round-of-16 as a wild card. What happened two months later left everyone in shock.

"No, I wouldn't have believed it at all, because at the beginning of the grass courts, I was coming fresh off my exams. I had three weeks to practice before my first tournament. Yeah, I just built up every single match, every single win," Raducanu said.

"I mean, I thought Wimbledon was such an incredible experience. Fourth round, second week, I couldn't believe it. I thought, what a great achievement. "But I was still hungry. I was working hard after the grass. I didn't have much time off.

Then straight back out here on the States. With each match and tournament and week, I think I've really built in terms of confidence, in terms of my game, in terms of my ball striking. Everything came together today. "Yeah, I think to pull off some of the shots I did in the big moments when I really needed it was just an accumulation of everything I've learnt in the past five weeks."
