Jamie Murray: Incredible and remarkable what Emma Raducanu has achieved at age of 18

Former doubles world No. 1 Jamie Murray described Emma Raducanu's US Open victory as "incredible" as he has tipped the rising British star to be a "superstar in the tennis world for years to come." Raducanu, 18, became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam after beating Leylah Fernandez in the US Open final.

Raducanu won a total of 10 matches at the US Open, all without a dropped set. “It was incredible, wasn’t it? Her second Grand Slam appearance at 18 years old,” Murray told talkSPORT host Jim White. “I’m sure she’s going to go on and be a superstar in the tennis world for years to come.

“She took it one match at a time, she played it point by point every match and she showed the world that she had the level and the composure to tick away and be a Grand Slam champion”.

Murray hopes Raducanu continues to move in the right direction

After winning her maiden Grand Slam at the age of 18, all the eyes will be on Raducanu's further development.

The expectation on Raducanu is now that she will become a multiple time Grand Slam champion and future No. 1. “She’ll be a big presence in the media and everyone will be keen to follow how she performs on the court after what she’s done in New York," Murray added.

“Hopefully she’s got good people around her, good grounding, good base, and she’ll be fine. She’ll be focused on her career and keep pressing forwards”. Murray was absolutely impressed with the campaign Raducanu put up at the US Open.

“It’s an incredible achievement. What she’s done at such a young age and with such little experience and expectation – it’s remarkable what she’s done," Murray said. “I hope that she continues in that vein of form going forward despite increased spotlight and expectation that’s going to be placed on her”.
