World No. 7 Matteo Berrettini is excited about making his debut at the Laver Cup. Berrettini, 25, is set to represent Team Europe at the Laver Cup next week. The Laver Cup is set to be staged at Boston's TD Garden and Berrettini insists he has heard nothing but good about playing in that specific arena.
"I'm really excited to be part of the Laver Cup this year,” Berrettini said, per the Laver Cup website. “I’ve heard so much talk in the locker-rooms from the guys that have played it before about what a cool event it is.
“Playing at TD Garden and having Bjorn Borg as my captain… is going to be a really special experience”.
Berrettini made the US Open quarterfinal
Berrettini last played at the US Open, where he made the quarterfinal before losing to world No.
1 Novak Djokovic. "Yeah, best three sets I've played - second, third and fourth - in the tournament so far. Djokovic, who recovered from a set down to beat Berrettini, spoke extremely highly of the Italian after the match.
"I think I managed to raise the level of my tennis. When I dropped the first set, I just went to a different level and I stayed there till the last point. That's something that definitely encourages me and gives me a lot of confidence prior to semifinals," Djokovic said after beating Berrettini.
"Was a great battle. Always is with Matteo. He's very powerful player. He's got one of the best 1-2 punch in the game. Forehand from any position really. Serve, one of the biggest serves we have in tennis. Just difficult player to player against.
He likes the big stage. He brings a lot of energy, a lot of intensity on the court. Was a great battle. "I feel like my game, I stepped it up, and my game has improved definitely during the last couple matches. It's going in the right direction so far."
