Nick Kyrgios: Laver Cup is my favorite week of the year

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is looking forward to playing at the Laver Cup. Kyrgios, 26, took part in the inaugural Laver Cup edition in 2017. Kyrgios also played at the Laver Cup in 2018 and 2019. Kyrgios was scheduled to play the Laver Cup in 2020 as well but the event got canceled.

This year's Laver Cup is set to take place at TD Garden, Boston. TD Garden is the home of the Boston Celtics, Kyrgios' favorite NBA team. "The Laver Cup is my favorite week of the year, and I love being part of the team,” Kyrgios said.

“Boston fans love their sports, so if we can win the Laver Cup anywhere, TD Garden and Boston, one of the world’s greatest sports cities, are the place to do it”.

Kyrgios last played at the US Open

Kyrgios' campaign at the US Open was a short one since he suffered a straight-set loss to Roberto Bautista Agut.

"Kyrgios was fuming over specific towel placement on the court when Carlos Bernardes asked Kyrgios to place his towel closer to the bins against the wall behind the baseline after he used it to wipe off sweat. The Australian snapped at the umpire.

"Look, in the heat of the battle, when you're getting wiped off the court, it's never a good thing, so you try and outlet the pressure in many, many ways," Kyrgios said, per ABC News. Kyrgios was also unhappy that he as an vaccinated player was treated as those unvaccinated.

"Look, the towel situation for me is incredibly stupid," Kyrgios said. "I'm one of the players on Tour that is fully vaccinated. And as of now, I'm getting treated exactly the same as a player that is not vaccinated.

I feel like if I want my towel around the court, if it's not disturbing Bautista Agut's vision, if he doesn't see the towel, I don't see anything wrong with having my towel on the side or on the ground. And it's just absurd for me."
