" Earlier this year, in the week of January 4th, 2021, the very young Emma Raducanu occupied the 345th position in the WTA world rankings. Having such a low ranking, Emma had the opportunity to participate in the main draw of the Wimbledon tournament - for the first time in her very short career - exclusively through a wildcard, which allowed her to beat Vitalia Diatchenko, Marketa Vondrousova and Sorana Cirstea, before retiring in the round of 16 against Alja Tomljanovic.
Thanks to this result, Raducanu made a leap of over 150 positions and reached the 179th step of the world rankings. After a couple of not so exciting results over the summer and the final lost in Chicago to Clara Tauson, the British player showed up for the US Open qualifiers, where she easily overtook Bibiane Schoofs, Mariam Bolkvadze and Mayar Sherif.
Arrived at the main draw, Emma completed her incredible race, which led her to defeat Stefanie Voegele, Shuai Zhang, Sara Sorribes Tormo, Shelby Rogers, Belinda Bencic, Maria Sakkari and Leylah Fernandez in the final, thus going to conquer the her first Grand Slam title.
