Former world No. 13 Nick Kyrgios believes Team World has a great chance of beating Team Europe for the first time at the Laver Cup. Team Europe owns a 3-0 record against Team World and Kygios is hoping that will change his week in Boston.
Kyrgios acknowledged that Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are not representing Team Europe and underlined that Team World needs to take the advantage of the Big 3 absence. "Yeah, it's super special.
As John alluded to we love playing team events, we don't get them too often. To be sitting up here with a great group of guys -- especially I'm close to a lot of these guys here and new guys Reilly and Felix, I'm super excited for them, they're going to be in this even for many, many years to come.
I think this is our time. With the Big 3 from Europe sitting with injury and all that I think it's our best shot. We have got a job to do this week and I think we have got a great setup and great team to do it," Kyrgios said.
Kyrgios absolutely loves the Laver Cup
Kyrgios loves team atmosphere and that's one of the main reasons why he loves returning to the Laver Cup every year. A few years ago, when the Laver Cup was staged in Chicago, Kyrgios got a chance to meet NBA legend Scottie Pippen.
"That was probably one of my favorite weeks of the Laver Cup. I had to fly there early and got to meet Scottie Pippen, as well as spending another day with Roger in Chicago. We had an amazing media day there. Honestly I picked Scottie Pippen's brain for about two hours.
I never asked someone more questions. I just wanted to learn what he was about, his experiences and obviously having successful athletes like around me I learned so much," Kyrgios said.
