Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is a huge Boston Celtics fan and he admitted that playing at TD Garden and in front of some Celtics player will bring pressure. However, six-time ATP champion Kyrgios is determined to deliver his best tennis at this week's Laver Cup and lead Team World to a win over Team Europe.
"I had an experience to play in Chicago, in the Bulls arena, and that was a special moment. We had Scottie Pippen watching us play on the sidelines and you see the banners hanging from the roof. I've played in the Madison Square Garden, I've played in the United Center, I've played in the TD Garden now.
I never thought when I was 12 to 14, that I would be representing world with some good mates and some good friends. It's a special opportunity to do something special. There is going to be some Celtics players watching as well, that's an added pressure.
I'm going to try to keep everything internal... Go out there and try to give the greatest performance I can give on the day. If we come out with a win, it's going to make it even more special that we did it in such a special place as well," Kyrgios said.
Kyrgios recalled meeting Scottie Pippen
At the 2018 Laver Cup in Chicago, Kyrgios met Chicago Bulls legend Pippen. "That was probably one of my favorite weeks of the Laver Cup. I had to fly there early and got to meet Scottie Pippen, as well as spending another day with Roger in Chicago.
We had an amazing media day there. Honestly I picked Scottie Pippen's brain for about two hours. I never asked someone more questions. I just wanted to learn what he was about, his experiences and obviously having successful athletes like around me I learned so much," Kyrgios said.
