German tennis star Alexander Zverev believes Team Europe is the favorite to beat Team World at the Laver Cup. Team Europe has six players ranked inside the top-10, while the top-ranked player from Team World is 11th-ranked Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Team Europe has never lost to Team World as they ended victorious in each of the first three event editions. "I think it’s not only the format but the team atmosphere that we’re having. The three previous years it was always very close, very tight.
I won the last two matches of the last two years, so it’s always very close,” said Zverev. “Obviously, as Thomas [Enqvist] said, I shared my experiences with the guys who is the first time for them here."
Zverev expects fans to be on Team World side
This year's Laver Cup is being held in Boston.
“I think the stadium is going to be maybe against us a little bit. The crowd is going to be against us maybe a little bit. But we are who we are. We are six top-10 players sitting here. A lot of us are in incredible form right now.
“We do know that we are the favourites. I think everybody is looking forward to it. Everybody is looking forward to the challenge, and we’ll see how it goes. In the end of the day, we are here to hopefully win it again”.
Captain John Mcenroe noted that everyone from Team World is "hungry" to finally to beat Team Europe. "It's been so close every year, we could taste it. I know that all of us are very hungry and eager. We have got people that can take the racket out of their hands and that's the plan.
Also, we have got some people that haven't been here before. I think that combination gives us a good energy," McEnroe said.
