World No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas spoke positively of Nick Kyrgios following their clash at the Laver Cup. Tsitsipas, who represents Team Europe, handed a 6-3 6-4 loss to Team World's Kyrgios at the Laver Cup on Saturday. Kyrgios' last tournament of the 2020 season came in Acapulco and the Australian hasn't played lots of tournaments this season either.
However, Tsitsipas entered the match knowing how dangerous Kyrgios could be. "He is someone, you know, with not much practice or preparation, he can come out and play his best tennis due to the enormous talent that he has," Tsitsipas said of Kyrgios after their Laver Cup clash.
Tsitsipas delivering on his promise
During his pre-tournament interview at the Laver Cup, Tsitsipas said his goal was to deliver his best tennis this weekend. "We are going to expose our best tennis this week, that's our ultimate goal and plan.
Of course, the crowd is not in our favor. This is something that we are expecting and we are going to fight against it and try prove ourselves with our game," Tsitsipas said. Team Europe is missing Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
During his pre-tournament press conference, Kyrgios acknowledged Team World needs to take the advantage of that. "Yeah, it's super special. As John alluded to we love playing team events, we don't get them too often.
To be sitting up here with a great group of guys -- especially I'm close to a lot of these guys here and new guys Reilly and Felix, I'm super excited for them, they're going to be in this even for many, many years to come.
I think this is our time. With the Big 3 from Europe sitting with injury and all that I think it's our best shot. We have got a job to do this week and I think we have got a great setup and great team to do it," Kyrgios said.
