Team World captain John McEnroe praised Team Europe after suffering a loss at the Laver Cup. Team Europe beat Team World 14-1 to keep a perfect record against Team World at the Laver Cup. Team Europe have now won all four editions of the Laver Cup.
McEnroe has been a captain of Team World in each of the first four editions. Team Europe had a strong team as it featured six top-10 players. Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, Matteo Berrettini and Casper Ruud dominated Team World.
"These guys are a great team, no question... An incredible team. They had a good team spirit as well, we had as well. A couple of different results could have put more pressure on them. But we just came up short. I think four tie-break ears -- we win half of those it's a totally different story.
Even other matches we had a chance to get in. We gave it our best but they were too good," McEnroe said.
McEnroe's Team World failed to capitalize on the Big Three absence
Laver Cup co-founder Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic didn't represent Team Europe at the Laver Cup.
Before the event started, Nick Kyrgios said Team World needed to capitalize on the Big Three absence. "Yeah, it's super special. As John alluded to we love playing team events, we don't get them too often. To be sitting up here with a great group of guys -- especially I'm close to a lot of these guys here and new guys Reilly and Felix, I'm super excited for them, they're going to be in this even for many, many years to come.
I think this is our time. With the Big 3 from Europe sitting with injury and all that I think it's our best shot. We have got a job to do this week and I think we have got a great setup and great team to do it," Kyrgios said.
