Stefanos Tsitsipas: In Indian Wells you feel as honored as you feel at Grand Slam

World No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas is excited to be back to Indian Wells as he says he feels the same honor in Indian Wells as he feels at a Grand Slam. Tsitsipas, 23, is set to make his third Indian Wells appearance. Tsitsipas has yet to make it past the second round in Indian Wells.

“California is a great place for tennis with great weather and ideal conditions,” Tsitsipas said, per Tennishead. “When it comes to organising things for players [it is great]. Indian Wells is known to be one of the best tennis tournaments in the world and every single player is excited to be playing here.

“It does feel like a big thing, you kind of feel the same honour at this tournament and Miami as a Slam. There is something about it”.

Tsitsipas acknowledges American tennis history

“Americans love sport.

The American audience appreciates a high level of tennis. They have been really into tennis in the last couple of years. They have had great tennis players in the United States. I grew up watching them," Tsitsipas noted. “Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Michael Chang and Jim Courier.

They gave so much to the sport and that is the reason we are here now”. A few days ago, Tsitsipas called for fans to show him support in Indian Wells as he is aiming to make a deep run at the tournament this year. "Hey everyone, Stefanos here, guys it's exciting to be back.

It's been a really long time since I've been back here. Please come support me, show some love, this week, next week, and all the time being here. It's such a beautiful tournament to be competing in. Being back in Indian Wells just gives me good vibes.

Support me and let's make this a hell of a ride," Tsitsipas said in a message posted on the tournament's Twitter account.
