World No. 4 Iga Swiatek has advised US Open finalists Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez to keep the right balance and have the right people around them following their outstanding US Open campaign. During her pre-tournament interview at the Indian Wells Masters, 2020 French Open champion Swiatek was asked what advice would she give to Raducanu and Fernandez.
“Well I would say balancing all the things you have to do on-court and all the things that [you’ve] been doing for the past years with all that new stuff,” Swiatek explained, per Tennishead. “Because it can overwhelm [you] at the beginning.
It was good for me that Roland Garros was the last tournament of the season. I know that [Fernandez and Raducanu] probably have one or two more. “Then they’re going to have a break and they’re going to have time to reflect on [their success].
“Also having the people around you who won’t be pushing you to do more because of public relations or publicity. Just you know maybe staying calm a little bit and waiting for how you will react to all of that”.
Swiatek hopes to end the season strong
Swiatek, 20, has played lots of tournaments this season but she is motivated to keep pushing and end the season on a high note. After the Indian Wells Masters, Swiatek should appear at the WTA Finals event in Guadalajara.
"I'm pretty happy, first of all, that I still have energy and motivation because that's my first [full] year on tour and I didn't really know how I'm going to cope with playing tournaments the whole year without basically any break.
Because of the Olympics, we didn't have any break. I just took four days off in the middle of the season, so hopefully it's going to be enough for my motivation to last till the end of the season," Swiatek said.
