Bianca Andreescu reveals key in her win over Alison Riske

World No. 21 Bianca Andreescu felt Alison Riske raising her level during their match but she was happy that she managed to keep her composure and escape a surprise loss. Andreescu, the defending Indian Wells champion, edged out world No.

51 Riske 7-6 (2) 5-7 6-2 to reach the Indian Wells third round. "I felt like I could have raised my level a little bit more throughout the match because that's what she did, that's how she came back in those important moments," Andreescu said, per Tennis Up To Date.

"But I think the key for me today was to keep my composure as much as I can and not to feel the pressure of the crowd or being the defending champion. I think I dealt with that better in the third set."

Andreescu wants to live in the present

Andreescu won the Indian Wells Masters and US Open in 2019 but since then she hasn't managed to win a big title.

"I would say the main thing this year for me was to stop looking in the past because that's what I was doing a lot and that's what was really ruining me,” Andreescu said in Indian Wells. “I would always tell myself 'Oh I want to play like I did back in 2019, why aren't I playing like I used to?' “But then I really had to switch that mindset and start focusing in the present moment because the past is the past.

Even in the future I'd really look into the future as well, so I just stopped that and I told myself to live every moment like it's your last and obviously it doesn't come easy, because I still feel like my mind is all over the place, but I know it's getting better and, you know, with the help of meditation and a good team around me that's definitely going to improve."
