Ons Jabeur reacts to becoming first Arab player ever to break into top-10

Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur has made history as she is set to become the first Arab tennis player to break into the top-10. Jabeur, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 14 in the world, is guaranteed to break into the top-10 for the first time in her career when the WTA rankings get updated on Monday.

On Tuesday, Jabeur saw off Anna Kalinskaya 6-2 6-2 to progress into the Indian Wells Masters quarterfinal. “She’s an unbelievable player,” Jabeur said of Kalinskaya in her on-court interview, per TENNIS magazine.

“She’s everywhere, she gets every ball, so I had to use each angle from the court. The drop shot helps, the slices—my forehand was really good today. "I’m really happy with my performance”.

Jabeur hopes inspire a new generation of Arab players

“Starting playing tennis, I wanted to win the French Open for some reason,” Jabeur revealed. “I won it in juniors, and then I always told my mom I want to be No.

1. I always believed, but leading wins on the WTA is a dream coming true, and I hope I can inspire the new generation. Not so many players from my country play”. Jabeur is now hoping to make more tennis history as she has a chance to become the first Arab player to qualify for the WTA Finals.

Jabeur is currently ninth on the Race to the WTA Finals and she has a shot at making the season-ending event. "The main goal is to qualify for Guadalajara," Jabeur said. "It's a dream coming true. It's something big.

Knowing that I can be the first Arab to qualify, it's unbelievable. "It's more stress on me but I really made my peace with it. I'm going to do my best. If I qualify, great. If I don't, maybe it's a great message for me to rest my body and be ready for the next season."
