Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov spoke highly of world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev following their clash at the Indian Wells Masters. Medvedev, who captured his maiden Grand Slam title at this past US Open, was in absolute control against Dimitrov but the former world No.

3 created a stunning comeback to send the Russian packing out of Indian Wells. Dimitrov, ranked at No. 28 in the world, recovered from a set and two breaks down to beat Medvedev 4-6 6-4 6-3 to reach the Indian Wells quarterfinal.

Medvedev won the last three meeting between the two and he was on the verge of clinching a fourth consecutive win over Dimitrov. "He is such a tough player and competitor,” Dimitrov said in his on-court interview, per the ATP website.

“Over the past year, I have played him a few times and haven’t been able to find a way. But today, I just felt something at 1-4 and I calmed myself down and started to take better decisions and started to control the pace of the game, which I really believed helped me.

In the end it was just very solid and smart play”.

Dimitrov created a stunning comeback

Medvedev was up by 6-4 4-1 and two games away from sealing a comfortable win over Dimitrov. Dimitrov then went on a stunning run as he claimed four consecutive breaks and won eight games in a row to completely overturn the deficit.

Dimitrov then served out for the match in the ninth game to complete a comeback win. “I am happy that I get the opportunity to play again at this level,” Dimitrov added. “There were lots of ups and downs and you never know what is going to happen, so I am really trying to be appreciative of the moment I get to be out here on the court and work and stay humble.

That is the only thing you can control”. Dimitrov, 30, made his first quarterfinal in Indian Wells following his win over Medvedev.
