Greeik tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas wants to make the game more interesting for young kids and that was one of the reasons why he decided to be the driving force behind a unique event held in Vienna. On Friday, eight players participated at the inaugural Red Bull Bassline.
The event was played in best-of-three tie-breaks and while the matches were played, music in the background was going on. The music was not too loud but it was something that was never before seen on a tennis court. "I want to bring young kids into the sport and make it fun.
Many years ago I went to an NBA game and I really liked the energy and the music, and that is how Red Bull Bassline was born. This competition will offer explosiveness, intensity, and competitiveness," Tsitsipas explained, per Tennis Up To Date.
Tsitsipas praised Carlos Alcaraz
Rising Spanish star Alcaraz, who beat Tsitsipas at this past US Open, ended up winning the Red Bull Basslight. "Carlos definitely deserves to be the champion and in many other big events in the future.
I am very happy how this turned out," Tsitsipas said of Alcaraz. Alcaraz also spoke highly of Tsitsipas, labeling him as a "great player." "It is an honour to play here. Stefanos is a great player, so I had to play my best from the first ball to the last ball," Alcaraz said of Tsitsipas.
Before the event took place, Tsitsipas said it was something that would revolutionize tennis. “It’s a new format, a faster format, much more exciting for fans of a younger age. There’s going to be energy, there’s music, there’s a whole lot of vibrancy put into it which makes it like a breath of fresh air,” Tsitsipas said. “It will revolutionize tennis, I would say, bring it to another dimension."
